Police were asking for the help of the community to help identify the person who allegedly caused a car accident, injuring a girl and driving off. Earlier this week, several days after the accident, the driver, a 24-year-old woman, turned herself in. She was arrested yesterday.

The crash occurred recently in West Philadelphia. Police say the driver, who drove a blue Cadillac, struck a 9-year-old girl who was riding a bicycle near her home.

The girl was taken to the Children's Hospital after sustaining injuries. She was listed in stable condition and later released. However, sources say she returned to the hospital this week after complaining of leg pain. She is expected to recover.

A witness and her passenger say the driver fled the scene by driving upon the sidewalk and around her own car. The witness followed the hit-and-run driver, but the suspect was able to get away.

The victim's cousin thanked the witness for helping someone she did not personally know. She also can't believe the woman drove off. According to NBC Philadelphia, she asks, "How could you just leave a human being knowing that the person may die?"

After the driver turned herself in, the lawyer said the woman panicked after hitting the girl. She was ultimately charged with leaving the scene of an accident while unlicensed.

It's unfortunate that drivers sometimes try to protect themselves rather than do the right thing. This time, luckily, the girl survived the accident, but the outcome could have been much worse.
